New install of NetWare 4.2, 5.0, 5.1 and 6.0 ============================================ IMPORTANT: If you plan to install the OS to a RAID volume, you must first configure the RAID volume through the XROM version of ICP RAID Console. At system boot time, press Ctrl-G when prompted to invoke the XROM version of ICP RAID Console. New install of NetWare 4.20 with the SRCRX.HAM driver: ------------------------------------------------------ - create a driver diskette from the RAID Software Suite CDROM either from a Windows workstation or by booting to the RAID Software Suite CDROM - start the OS installation from the NetWare CD (NetWare 4.x CDs are NOT bootable so you'll already need to have a bootable DOS partition installed on your target hard drive and have the appropriate DOS driver for your CDROM) - at the driver summary menu select modify drivers - insert the driver diskette into drive A: - press ENTER on the storage driver list - press INS in the storage controller driver menu - press F3 and change the path to A:\DRIVERS\4XX then press ENTER - select the SRCRX.HAM driver - continue the NetWare installation as normal by following the screen prompts New install of NetWare 5.0 with the SRCRX.HAM driver: ------------------------------------------------------ IMPORTANT: The SRCRX.HAM driver depends on a later version of the NWPA.NLM than was shipped on the NetWare 5.0 CD. Without the NWPA.NLM update, the SRCRX.HAM driver will fail to load. The following procedure will allow you to upgrade the NWPA.NLM on the fly during OS installation. - create a driver diskette from the RAID Software Suite CDROM either from a Windows workstation or by booting to the RAID Software Suite CDROM - start the OS installation from the NetWare bootable CD - the NetWare Install will eventually load a "Welcome" screen asking you to verify the startup directory (C:\NWSERVER) - press Alt+F10 to exit the installation - at the NetWare console prompt, type "down" and press ENTER (the installation exits to the boot drive's DOS prompt) - insert the driver diskette into the A: drive - if your NetWare startup directory is drive C:, then run A:\INSTALL\NWUPDATE.BAT, otherwise create a subdirectory named NWUPDATE at the root of your boot drive and copy all the files from A:\DRIVERS\5XX to the NWUPDATE subdirectory - leave the NetWare 5.0 bootable CD in place, but remove the driver diskette from drive A: - reboot the server - after rebooting the server, the NetWare 5.0 Install will start again - right after the Accept the License Agreement screen, select the "Continue with Existing Partition" option - you may encounter a warning dialog box if you chose to install a "New Server" that says, "Warning: A previously installed version of NetWare was detected in C:\NWSERVER. If you choose to install a new server, all data on the existing server will be lost. " - do as the message suggests and press ENTER - continue the NetWare installation as normal by following the screen prompts New install of NetWare 5.1x with the SRCRX.HAM driver: ------------------------------------------------------ - create a driver diskette from the RAID Software Suite CDROM either from a Windows workstation or by booting to the RAID Software Suite CDROM - start the OS installation from the NetWare bootable CD - at the storage driver summary menu select modify drivers - insert the driver diskette into drive A: - press ENTER on the storage driver list - press INS in the storage controller driver menu - press F3 and change the path to A:\DRIVERS\5XX then press ENTER - select the SRCRX.HAM driver - continue the NetWare installation as normal by following the screen prompts RECOMMENDATION: Install all patches and updates from Novell Fresh installation of NetWare 6.x using SRCRX.HAM driver: --------------------------------------------------------- - the SRCRX.HAM driver is already located on the NetWare 6.0 CD and will be detected automatically during installation RECOMMENDATION: Update to the latest SRCRX.HAM after OS installation as described below and install all Novell NetWare patches and updates. NOTE: The above procedures install only the controller drivers. To Install the ICP RAID Console NLM, follow the procedure under "Add RAID Controller(s), drivers, and/or ICP RAID Console to an existing NetWare installation" and select the "Storage RAID Controller Tools Kit (ICPCON.NLM)" option. Add RAID Controller(s), drivers, and/or ICP RAID Console to an existing NetWare installation ======================================================================= RECOMMENDATION: Install all patches and updates from Novell prior to installing the RAID Controller driver and ICP RAID Console - create a driver diskette from the RAID Software Suite CDROM either from a Windows workstation or by booting to the RAID Software Suite CDROM - power off the system and add the RAID Controller card(s) - power on the system and boot to the OS - load INSTALL.NLM (For 4.2x only) - load NWCONFIG.NLM (For 5.x and above) - insert the driver diskette into drive A: - do one or both of the following to install your desired packages (you don't need to reinstall the driver package if you initially installed the driver using one of the steps under "New install of NetWare 4.2, 5.0, 5.1 and 6.0") To install the "RAID Controller Driver" package ----------------------------------------------- - RECOMMENDATION: Install all patches and updates from Novell prior to installing the RAID Controller driver and ICP RAID Console - create a driver diskette from the RAID Software Suite CDROM either from a Windows workstation or by booting to the RAID Software Suite CDROM - load INSTALL.NLM (For 4.2x only) - load NWCONFIG.NLM (For 5.x and above) - select "Product options", "Install a product not listed" - change the path to A:\INSTALL and press enter to continue - select "RAID Controller Driver (SRCRX.HAM)" by setting the cursor on it's menu item and pressing the space bar (an X will appear in the item's checkbox) - press F10 to accept the selected item - after the file copy is complete: - select "Return to previous menu" to get back to the INSTALL/NWCONFIG main options - select "Driver Options" - select "Configure disk and storage device drivers" - select "Discover and load additional drivers" - press ENTER to continue past any module load errors not related to the RAID Controller - press F3 to continue past any hardware found by NetWare for which a matching driver was not found - NetWare will now load the SRCRX.HAM driver for each hardware instance you added in the system and update the STARTUP.NCF file so the driver will load for each subsequent restart of the server - select "Return to previous menu" twice to get back to the INSTALL/NWCONFIG main options To install the "Storage RAID Controller Tools Kit" package ---------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: ICPCON.NLM will not find any controllers unless SRCRX.HAM is already loaded and running.
